Buffalo Bills Rule Out Ty Johnson and T.J. Sanders for Season Opener Against Texans

The Buffalo Bills have confirmed that running back Ty Johnson and defensive lineman T.J. Sanders will be sidelined for the team’s 2026 season opener against the Houston Texans. Both players were listed as questionable heading into the weekend, but were officially ruled inactive on game day.

The absences present an early challenge for Buffalo as they begin their campaign on the road. To bolster their roster depth in light of these injuries, the Bills elevated running back Frank Gore Jr. and wide receiver Greg Dortch from the practice squad on Saturday.

Injury Status and Roster Adjustments

Ty Johnson’s unavailability stems from a hamstring injury that has kept him off the field since early August. Although he managed to participate in a limited capacity during Friday’s practice session, the team ultimately determined he was not fit for game action. Johnson was projected to serve as a key rotational piece in the backfield, particularly in passing situations, behind James Cook and Ray Davis. The addition of Frank Gore Jr. provides the team with necessary depth at the position.
