Alabama Crimson Tide Faces Depth Test Against Kentucky Amid Key Player Absences

The No. 12 Alabama Crimson Tide heads into Saturday’s matchup against the Kentucky Wildcats facing significant personnel challenges. As the team travels to Lexington to build on their season-opening win against East Carolina, head coach Kalen DeBoer must navigate the absence of multiple key contributors who have been ruled out for the contest.

The most notable absence is starting offensive guard Michael Carroll. A pivotal figure on the offensive line, Carroll was the only returning starter from the 2025 season. After transitioning from right tackle to guard during the offseason, he played 74 snaps in the opener against East Carolina without allowing a sack. Although he was listed as doubtful on the SEC availability report earlier in the week, the university officially downgraded his status to out on Friday. The specific nature of his injury has not been disclosed.

Managing Roster Depth and Injuries

The Crimson Tide’s offensive line will require immediate adjustments to compensate for the loss of Carroll. During training camp, Will Sanders and Mal Waldrep were identified as primary competitors for the left guard position, and the coaching staff is expected to look to these players to fill the vacancy in the starting lineup.
