US Authorities Name Indian Lab Owner as Fugitive in $93 Million Medicare Fraud Case

United States federal authorities have officially designated Khadeer Khan Mohammed, an Indian national and laboratory owner, as a fugitive following his indictment in a significant health care fraud investigation. The 46-year-old is accused of masterminding a scheme that allegedly defrauded Medicare of approximately $93 million through the submission of fraudulent claims for genetic testing.

The charges against Mohammed were brought as part of the 2025 National Health Care Fraud Takedown, a coordinated effort led by the Department of Justice. The investigation, which spanned from August 2023 to October 2024, was conducted by the FBI’s Dallas Field Office in conjunction with the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (HHS-OIG). Prosecutors from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas are currently managing the criminal case.

Allegations of Fraud and Unauthorized Medical Claims

According to federal investigators, Mohammed served as the owner of American Premier Labs LLC, a facility based in Richardson, Texas. The indictment alleges that the laboratory submitted extensive claims for genetic tests that were either medically unnecessary or lacked the required authorization from treating physicians. Authorities report that Medicare paid out at least $65 million in response to these claims, with nearly $13 million processed during a single 10-day period in 2023.
