Ukraine Reports Systematic Russian Attacks on Railway Infrastructure Near Polish Border

Ukrainian authorities have reported a series of coordinated strikes targeting the nation’s railway infrastructure, describing the offensive as a systematic attempt to disrupt transport networks. The escalation included a drone strike on a passenger train traveling from Kyiv to Warsaw, which occurred just two kilometres from the border with Poland, a member state of NATO.

President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the incident, stating that Russian forces deliberately targeted the locomotive in the Volyn region. While the strike caused significant damage to the train and a nearby gas station, officials from both Ukraine and Poland confirmed that there were no casualties among the 206 passengers on board. The service, operated by Poland’s PKP Intercity, faced a delay of more than six hours but was cleared to continue its journey following mandatory security checks.

The Polish government confirmed that it is monitoring the situation on an ongoing basis.
