Uber Announces Global Workforce Reduction of 10 Percent

Uber has announced plans to reduce its global workforce by approximately 10 percent as part of a broad organizational restructuring. The move, confirmed by CEO Dara Khosrowshahi in a message to staff, is intended to simplify the company’s internal operations and address inefficiencies that have emerged as the business has expanded.

The company, which currently employs roughly 34,000 people across more than 70 countries, stated that the layoffs are designed to foster a leaner corporate structure. According to the leadership, the objective is to reduce coordination delays, clarify ownership of tasks, and accelerate the decision-making process across its various international divisions.

Operational Shifts and Market Exits

The restructuring effort coincides with a strategic withdrawal from specific regional markets. On Wednesday, the company confirmed it is ceasing operations in Nigeria and Uganda. This follows a similar exit from Tanzania earlier this year, marking a contraction of the firm's footprint in parts of East and West Africa.
