Police reports reveal that Charles Brooks admitted to retrieving a handgun and loading it in an attempt to intervene in the conflict. The Sheriff's Office noted that statements from those present corroborated the occurrence of a physical fight prior to the shooting.
On the day of the incident, the Parker County Sheriff's Office received a call reporting a gunshot victim. Deputies arrived promptly and initiated lifesaving measures, which were later taken over by Medic 71 and Fire Rescue.
