Sacramento Authorities Identify Victim in Fatal Shooting Outside Panera

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has officially identified the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred outside a Panera Bread restaurant on Howe Avenue. The victim, 38-year-old Shalini Thakur, was killed in an attack that authorities have linked to a 22-year-old man, Rohit Rohit, who subsequently took his own life during a confrontation with police.

According to law enforcement reports, the incident took place as the victim was being dropped off at her workplace in a shopping plaza located at the intersection of Howe and Northrop Avenues. Witnesses and investigators stated that the suspect approached the woman, who attempted to flee before being struck by multiple gunshots. Authorities confirmed that the suspect fired at the victim at close range after she had fallen to the ground.

Stalking Allegations and Legal History

The victim’s family has publicly expressed frustration with the handling of the situation, with her mother, Sudesh Kumari, stating that the legal system failed to protect her daughter. Reports indicate that Thakur had previously secured a restraining order against the suspect, which documented a year-long pattern of harassment and stalking that allegedly began in September 2025.
