California man kills woman in Sacramento following months of alleged stalking

A 22-year-old man is dead following a fatal shooting in Sacramento, California, that authorities say was the culmination of a months-long campaign of stalking and harassment. The suspect, identified by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office as Rohit Rohit, allegedly targeted a 38-year-old woman with whom he had been acquainted through work for approximately two years.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of September 8 outside a Panera Bread restaurant on Howe Avenue. According to investigators, the suspect waited near a shopping center before confronting the woman. When she attempted to escape, he pursued her, fired multiple shots, and ultimately killed her at the scene. Following the shooting, deputies tracked the suspect’s vehicle using automated license plate readers. When they attempted a traffic stop on Highway 50, they discovered the suspect deceased inside the vehicle from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Escalating pattern of harassment

Law enforcement officials have detailed a disturbing timeline of events leading up to the homicide. Investigators believe the stalking began in January, when the victim discovered an Apple AirTag hidden under the hood of her car. Over the following months, the harassment reportedly intensified, including an incident where the suspect allegedly deflated the woman’s tire and then followed her to her workplace under the guise of offering assistance.
