Romania Sets New Guinness World Record With Massive Table for Charity

Tens of thousands of participants converged on Bucharest’s Unirii Boulevard on Saturday, participating in a mass public gathering that successfully secured a new Guinness World Record. The event featured a continuous table measuring 5,055 metres, which was officially recognized as the longest table ever constructed from recycled materials.

The initiative, organized by the Bloom The World Association, saw approximately 20,000 people occupy the length of the structure, which stretched from the city's main boulevard to Constitution Square, directly in front of the Palace of Parliament. Guinness World Records senior adjudicator Joanne Brent presented the organization with an official certificate, noting the significance of combining a record-breaking feat with a charitable objective.

Funding a New Pediatric Mental Health Facility

The primary goal of the gathering was to generate financial support for the construction of a new pediatric psychiatric hospital within the existing Obregia Hospital complex in the Romanian capital. The project, spearheaded by the Metropolis Foundation, aims to address what organizers describe as an alarming rise in serious mental health diagnoses among children, including autism, ADHD, depression, and substance abuse issues. Statistics cited by the foundation indicate that the number of children diagnosed with such conditions in Romania has climbed from 3,839 in 2018 to over 5,600 in 2024.
