Ramapo College Lockdown Remains in Effect Following Unfounded Reports of Armed Individual

Ramapo College in Mahwah, New Jersey, remains under a campus-wide lockdown following an emergency alert that warned of an armed individual on the premises. While the initial notification prompted significant concern regarding a potential active shooter, local law enforcement has since indicated that the reports appear to be unfounded.

The emergency alert, issued on Thursday afternoon, instructed students and staff to immediately shelter in place. The directive urged those on campus to barricade themselves in the nearest available rooms, silence their mobile devices, and remain out of sight until further notice. Those not currently on the grounds were advised to stay away from the area, with the alert describing the situation as an imminent threat.

Police Investigation and Current Campus Status

The Mahwah Police Department confirmed that officers were dispatched to the college campus at approximately 6:00 p.m. following reports of an individual seen with a weapon. Despite the initial urgency of the situation, authorities have stated that their preliminary investigation suggests the threat is not credible.
