IKEA to Open Compact Retail Concept Store in Florida

Furniture giant IKEA is set to launch a new, smaller-format store in the Sarasota-Bradenton area this autumn, marking a shift from its traditional large-scale warehouse model to a more localized shopping experience.

IKEA to Open Compact Retail Concept Store in Florida

IKEA is preparing to expand its presence in Florida with the launch of a new retail location on the state's west coast. The Swedish furniture retailer, known globally for its expansive showrooms and signature food offerings, is scheduled to open the doors to its latest facility this autumn, though an exact opening date has yet to be confirmed.

The upcoming store will be situated within the University Town Center, a major commercial development located adjacent to Interstate 75 on the border of Bradenton and Sarasota. This addition will increase the company’s footprint in Florida, where it currently operates locations in Sunrise and Sweetwater, among others.

A Shift Toward Compact Retail Spaces

The new Sarasota-area location represents a significant departure from the company’s traditional architectural model. While standard IKEA warehouses often exceed 300,000 square feet—such as the two-story, 350,000-square-foot facility in Tampa—the University Town Center site will occupy approximately 48,000 square feet. This smaller footprint places the store in the company of other major retailers in the complex, including REI, DSW, and Golf Galaxy.
