Yemen’s Houthi rebels claim Saudi Arabia launched over 50 airstrikes in 24 hours after the group targeted a Saudi military base. The escalation follows a recent surge in regional hostilities and mass displacement.

Houthis Report Surge in Saudi Airstrikes Following Military Base Attack

Yemen’s Houthi movement has reported a significant intensification of military activity, alleging that Saudi Arabia conducted more than 50 airstrikes against their positions within a 24-hour period. This surge in aerial operations follows a claim by the Iran-backed group that it successfully executed a drone and missile strike against a military installation inside Saudi territory.

Yahya Saree, the military spokesperson for the Houthis, stated via Telegram that the group recorded 58 individual airstrikes over the past day. The group’s media outlet, Almasirah TV, detailed that these operations targeted the northern province of Saada, a known Houthi stronghold, and included artillery fire in the border district of Monabbih. Additional reports from the same source indicated that Saudi strikes also hit a market in the Al-Jawf province.

Escalating Conflict and Regional Impact

The recent exchange of fire marks a sharp escalation in the conflict, which saw a resurgence in July after a period of relative dormancy following a 2022 United Nations-brokered ceasefire. The Houthis claim that since Tuesday, they have documented over 100 strikes against their positions. While Riyadh has not provided official confirmation regarding these specific figures, the Saudi civil defence agency has issued recurring alerts for southern regions, including Abha and Khamis Mushait, warning of potential incoming projectiles.
