British trekker found dead following disappearance in northern Pakistan

A 30-year-old British trekker has been found dead following an extensive search operation in northern Pakistan. Alexander Harris, who resided in Islamabad and worked for the advisory firm Adam Smith International, went missing on Saturday while descending the 4,000-metre Musa Ka Musala mountain in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Local officials confirmed that Mr. Harris, who also held Irish citizenship, had become separated from his hiking partner during the descent. According to Khalid Iqbal, the deputy commissioner for the area, the two men had reached the summit together before Mr. Harris moved ahead of his companion by approximately one to two kilometres. Shortly after the pair separated, weather conditions in the region deteriorated as rain began to fall.

Search and recovery operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Following the disappearance, a large-scale search effort was launched involving between 250 and 300 people, including local police officers and volunteers. Search teams navigated difficult terrain, contending with heavy rain, dense fog, and limited visibility. While the operation included the use of drones, poor weather conditions significantly hampered aerial efforts, forcing teams to rely primarily on ground-based searches.
