Lamine Yamal Makes History with Third Consecutive Ballon d’Or Nomination

Barcelona and Spain forward Lamine Yamal has set a new benchmark in professional football by becoming the first player to receive three Ballon d’Or nominations before reaching the age of 20. The 19-year-old was included in the 30-player shortlist announced on September 8, marking his third consecutive appearance in the prestigious rankings following nominations in 2024 and 2025.

Born in Mataró, Spain, in July 2007, Yamal has rapidly ascended to the top tier of the sport. While legendary players such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have received numerous nominations throughout their careers, Yamal’s achievement is distinguished by the speed at which he has reached this milestone. He previously became the youngest player ever to be shortlisted for the award when he debuted on the list at age 17 in 2024.

A Record-Breaking Trajectory

Yamal’s rise to prominence has been marked by consistent high-level performance for both club and country. In his debut nomination year of 2024, he finished eighth in the voting after playing a pivotal role in Spain’s victory at the European Championship. His standing improved significantly in 2025, when he finished second behind Paris Saint-Germain’s Ousmane Dembélé.
