Dubai Teen Develops AI Platform to Bridge Cancer Awareness Gap

After losing her grandmother to breast cancer, 17-year-old Saiyette Aima has launched an AI-powered initiative, CareCheck, designed to simplify medical information and improve access to breast health resources for women in India and beyond.

Dubai Teen Develops AI Platform to Bridge Cancer Awareness Gap

A 17-year-old student based in Dubai has developed an artificial intelligence platform aimed at improving breast cancer awareness and accessibility to healthcare information. Saiyette Aima, a student at Dubai College, initiated the project following the death of her grandmother, who passed away from breast cancer in 2020. The experience of witnessing her grandmother’s struggle with the disease from afar, compounded by the limitations of the Covid-19 pandemic, served as the primary catalyst for her advocacy work.

The initiative, titled CareCheck, is designed to act as a bridge between patients and medical professionals. By providing guidance in local languages, the platform aims to simplify complex medical terminology, assist users in tracking breast health symptoms, and help them locate nearby professional care. Aima has emphasised that the tool is not intended to provide medical diagnoses or replace the expertise of doctors, but rather to facilitate better communication and understanding between individuals and the healthcare system.

From Grassroots Fundraising to Technological Innovation

Aima’s journey into health advocacy began with smaller, community-focused efforts. She previously donated her hair to the Locks of Hope programme, an initiative by Friends of Cancer Patients that provides wigs to those undergoing chemotherapy. Following this, she launched a fundraising campaign called For Her, For Hope, which successfully raised over Dh10,400 for the Pink Caravan, a project dedicated to cancer awareness and free screenings. Her efforts earned her recognition as a Fundraising Hero of the Month by the platform YallaGive.
